Rancho Penasquitos Pressure Control and Hydroelectric Facility

Rancho Penasquitos Pressure Control and Hydroelectric Facility

Poway, CA

DESCRIPTION:

Landscape architectural services for the landscape of a new pressure control & hydroelectric facility. Design features include design for coastal chaparral, an access road to the future park, and blending of new landscaping with existing planting theme along Mercy Road. Scope of services includes site analysis, landscape concept plan, construction documents and cost estimates, and construction support services (irrigation & planting). Project is coordinated with the San Diego County Water Authority. SDCWA guidelines & standards. The project was also coordinated with the local Community Planning Group.

Specific BMP’s include use of a native seed mix for hydroseeded slope areas. A balance of native and non-native plant species were selected for their drought tolerance and ability to survive (after establishment) with minimal supplemental water. A 3 inch layer of 3/8” gravel provides a low maintenance groundcover and slows water and sediment during a rain event. Fiber rolls were maintained until slope plantings were established.

For establishment purposes, container plants are irrigated with a permanent low volume irrigation system. Hydroseeded slopes were temporarily irrigated with a gear drive irrigation system. These irrigation systems should be maintained for use during drought conditions.
