UC San Diego, Revelle College Housing
La Jolla, CA
DESCRIPTION:
Garbini & Garbini provided site design and construction documents for an aging student housing campus at the University of California San Diego. The existing site was in need of improvements involving pedestrian circulation, grading, and landscaping to provide accessible paths of travel, adequate drainage, and aesthetic refinements. The overall design provides an improved campus entry point, generous landscaped pathways, an efficient irrigation system, areas for passive recreation, and accessible courtyards that are open and inviting for residents and their guests.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
The site was re-graded to increase accessibility and minimize stairs which give the site a more gentle topography and creates a better experience for pedestrians. Built-in seating provides ample opportunity to enjoy newly opened views and give opportunity for small gatherings. Large specimen trees replaced old and poor specimen existing trees which memorable and fresh look to the campus. Throughout the site, an emphasis has been placed on the use of native, resilient, and attractive plant material that tie into adjacent areas of campus, yet give Revelle Campus a feel all its own.
